Webeye CMS protects new boxing gym in Sheffield as part of community funded project

VDT Direct Ltd is proud to announce the involvement of Webeye CMS in a recent community funded project in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The Lower Manor Boxing Gym was re-opened on Thursday October, 4 by local-born boxing star and world title contender, Kell Brook. The grand re-opening celebrated over £25,000 of refurbishments and hard work donated by a host of local companies, including facilities management company Galatia, Manor Development Trust, Sheffield City Council and many others.

The gym that has been broken into five times over the last two years suffered incredibly when vandals raided the building, pulling down the ceiling, smashing up showers and toilets and even taking the boiler to strip the building of its copper piping. In partnership with Sheffield firm Temples Security, VDT Direct donated a revolutionary and state of the art intruder alarm system, with Webeye CMS automated monitoring, to ensure the safety of the gym for the years to come. With Webeye CMS, the gym owners Steve Barnes and Chris Smedley will receive alarm notifications with video direct to their mobile phones whenever something happens, allowing them to react instantly and prevent any future damage. Chris in particular was extremely happy with the system as he happily showed attendees his Webeye CMS app as we presented him with his new control keypad.

To wrap up the opening celebrations a few words were said, by the young gym users in particular, that made VDT Direct Ltd extremely proud to be a part of the project. These included one recently turned professional boxer, Dale Hutchinson also known as The Black Mamba. He said, “I’ve been coming here for 13 years now; it saved me, this gym.

Many a time when I’ve gone off the line and its helped me get back on the straight (gesturing)- Steve and Chris. To see it the way it is now, it’s the best it’s looked in 13 years. It makes me want to come in and train more and it’s not embarrassing for when I want to bring people in. It’s spot on!” Also commenting on the work completed was boxing star and world title contender Kell Brook – “Around here- Manor, Woodthorpe, kids get into trouble and stuff so I think bringing kids out of that situation, like I had to start out when I was 9 or 10, coming in the gym is nothing but a positive.” In addition to VDT Direct, Chris, Steve and the whole of the Lower Manor Boxing gym would like to thank Willmott Dixon and Galatia, Jackson Shipley, Travis Perkins, Manor Development Trust, Photuris Ltd, Temples Security Ltd, Councillor Terry Fox and Councillor Pat Midgley for their continued support throughout the project.
