What does this mean?

Whilst most infra-red works independently of a camera, the Samsung A1 chipset has the ability to work integrated with any IR Illuminator associated or built into the unit.

This means that as an object, such as a human being, walks into the centre point (the strongest point of IR), the Samsung A1 chipset detects over-exposure (whiting out) and decreases the iris. This has the effect of reducing and sometimes eliminating the whiting out. The image top-right demonstrates how progressive IR works with this camera, whilst the image bottom-right shows another IR camera without this feature.

Progressive IR functionality is normally reserved for cameras at the high end of the market in the £300-400 price bracket.
